29-02-12 - Snetterton Test Day Report
The aim of the day was simply to get a feel of the R6 and find a base setting to suit my riding style, out the box we had the bike set as Alan Tanton (one of our mechanics and TS Supersport runner up) had his R6 set as it came off circuit at the last round of his 2010 season.
Within a few corners I had realised it wasn't the way to go for me. The bike was set up to turn very quickly with minimal input from the rider; however, with my own style of riding being much more aggressive it would turn much tighter than I wanted. With the ride height at the rear being set as high as it was, the feeling of rear tyre adhesion with the bike on its side was really vague, making slides unpredictable.
We opted for a much lazier setting for Session 2 and there was an instant improvement. I spent the rest of the day before lunch pulling in every 2 laps to fine tune and we actually ended up with the bike set pretty much the opposite way to what we had first gone for!
I did one fairly quick session after lunch with a best lap time that would've put me on the grid for the BSB Superstock 600 A Race, of which I'm really pleased with given the fact it was a track day, also as we were running a harder compound Metzeler on the front than that of the BSB control tyre.
So overall a really, really positive day! Cannot wait to get out at Brands Hatch this weekend!
